Biography

Teaching (1975-2002)

1975-1996 Appointed (at the age of 21) Professor of Lute Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Served for 21 years

1993-1999 Professor of "Historical Plucked Instruments" Hochschule der Künste, Berlin, Germany. Served for 6 years. Amongst many student/class concerts, also directed performances of Monteverdi's "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" and Carissimi's "Jepthe"

1999  Professor of Lute, Early Music Institute, Indiana University, Bloomington
Opera Performances for the EMI directed since in Bloomington:

  • March 1999 Thomas Arne "Thomas and Sally"
  • March 2000 Henry Purcell "Dido and Aeneas"
  • March 2001 C Monteverdi "L'Orfeo"

2005-2007 - Professor of Lute, Royal Conservatory, Den Haag, Netherlands

Masterclasses and summer workshops :

1988-2002 "International Summer Academy for Early Music", Innsbruck, Austria - giving regular masterclasses in Lute, Lute Song, Continuo and Chamber Music.
Performances as director included:

  • Carissimi's "Jepthe" in August 1997
